Lomilomi Massage

Lomilomi is a Hawaiian massage built on long, flowing strokes that move across the whole body like a wave. It's slow, rhythmic and very calming. It is also traditionally more exposed than most massages, as the strokes flow down the side of the body, so this page explains everything in advance: what it is, what you'll wear, how you are covered, and what a treatment is like.

If anything here doesn't suit you, there's almost always another option, just ask me.

What it feels like

Most massages work on one area at a time, lomilomi links them in a contonuous flow. A single stroke might start at your shoulder and travel along the back, over the hip, down the leg, and back up again. The main point of contact is the forearms, giving a broad, even pressure that has been described as like being carried by a wave passing up and down the body.

The pace is steady and continuous, with few pauses. The pressure is typically medium firmness. The long continuous flow helps many people switch their minds off and shift into a state of nervous system safety and calmness.

Lomilomi uses more oil than a typical Swedish massage, so expect to leave a little oily.

What you'll wear

Lomilomi strokes travel the length of the body without stopping, so traditionally it's given unclothed, with a sarong covering your genitals, giving access to the full side of the body.

If this feels too exposed there are other options such as wearing a disposable thong (which I can provide). You can also wear your own underwear.

Whichever you choose is ok, but be aware that if wearing your own underwear they will get oily so don't wear anything you care about too much.

Lomilomi draping

You will start the massage lying face down, covered by a sarong. I will then fold the sarong to the centre to expose your back and sides of your body.

Both sides are usually uncovered so the strokes travel down alternate sides, but if this feels too exposed I can work on one side at a time, keeping the other covered. I can also use a towel instead of a sarong if the extra weight feels more secure for you.

For women, your chest will be covered by a second sarong or towel.

I'll ask you your preferences before we start, and you can change them at any time.

Lomilomi can be sensual, but it's not sexual

The long slow strokes and amount of oil in lomilomi can feel very luxurious, and even sensual to some people. That is all welcome.

However, lomilomi is strictly a therapeutic, non-sexual massage. There is no sexual touch and no exceptions. If a client initiates any sexual touch or conversation I will end the session, and they won't be able to book again.
